Who’s Sleeping With You?

Life is all about choices.  I hear this record play in my father’s voice about 10 times a day, as I ask myself:  Wendy’s or Bojangles? Bills or this new makeup palette?  Studying or Netflix?  picjumbo.com_HNCK8487

But sometimes, you have to make even bigger, more pressing decisions.  Decisions that will put your relationships on the chopping block.

Are the relationships you’re in healthy?  Do you feel comfortable being yourself in these relationships?  Do you even feel motivated to give to these relationships?

If you answered “no” to any of the previous questions, in the words of my favorite college professor Dr.Rupert Nacoste,  “Walk the Hell away.”

Well folks, I did just that. And now, I have to pay for it.

Recently, Eboni made a very big choice for Eboni that required shedding some others in the process.  Those individuals weren’t too happy with Eboni’s choice, although Eboni’s choice does not affect them. They will not have to go to bed at night with this decision because after all, Eboni made this decision for herself.  Let that sink in.

If you haven’t realized by now, ‘walking the hell away’ can also bring you some hell. I had no idea that a choice I made for me and my well-being  would result in some of the mess I’ve dealt with so far.  Don’t be like me.  Don’t be oblivious. But most importantly, don’t be afraid.

Sometimes I wonder:  Maybe I should’ve accepted the olive branch that was offered to me.  Maybe I should have just bit my  tongue.  Maybe I should have just let it go for the sake of peace.

But let’s be honest: I don’t like olives, my tongue is sore, and dangit’ where has being peaceful gotten me?  Right here.

I don’t think about it often, but my true best friend, ride or die, A1 since Day 1 is Eboni Bryson.  I made a choice for me and I’m happy with it. Every day and night, I walk, breathe, shower, wash my face, brush my teeth, gargle mouthwash, say my prayers and go to sleep alone.  When I go to bed at night, I’m the only one who will have to either toss and turn, or doze off peacefully with whatever decision I make.

Do what you have to do for you.  Not everyone will like it.  Not everyone will agree.
But, when you go to bed at night, who is sleeping with you?

  2. On point. I totally agree. Do whatever you think is good for you. People will ALWAYS have something to say, WHATEVER you do so might as well be yourself and be happy. If you do regret things in the future, at least it will be a learning experience for you. This post is so empowering, it just hit me because I had to do the same thing last year when I cut off some ‘friends’ who were not good for me. I never regretted that decision.

Be strong. Be your beautiful self.
